Dr. Joan Yvonne Pedro<\/span><\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n A brief CV<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dr. Joan Yvonne Pedro is the Dean for the College of Education, at the University of <\/span>Houston-Clear Lake. Previously she served as Associate Dean of the College of <\/span>Education, Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Hartford. Dr. Pedro <\/span>received her Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia <\/span>Tech.) in Curriculum and Instruction, a MSc. in Special Education from the University of <\/span>Miami and a B.A(Hons) in Social Sciences and History from the University of the West <\/span>Indies. Among her many accomplishments at UHCL are developing a qualified and <\/span>diverse faculty, strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations, building new academic <\/span>programs and fostering a positive culture. Dr. Pedro has articles published in National <\/span>and International journals in the areas of reflective practice, literacy and teacher <\/span>education. She has participated in numerous presentations at regional, national and <\/span>international conferences. Dr. Pedro has conducted workshops both in the United States <\/span>and in the Caribbean in many areas of teacher education. She is an active member of <\/span>many professional organizations. Her research interests are in teacher development, <\/span>literacy, reflective practice and leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Disruption in International Education:\u00a0 Challenges and Opportunities <\/strong><\/p>\n Our presentation will highlight the changing roles in higher education as we navigate the many challenges and seek opportunities for success in international education for our campus stakeholders. COVID-19, climate change, incidents of mounting racial and international tensions have forced modifications on our global planning frameworks.\u00a0 We must re-align priorities and identify new opportunities with short to long-term strategies along with the use of technology\/virtual tools to facilitate global learning, research partnerships and engagement.
