Ms. Ana Cárdenes Bilbao

A brief CV

 

Ms. Ana Cárdenes is an International Relations professional with more than 15 years of experience in the development sector working mainly with Sub-Saharan and Sahelian countries, specialising in public and economic diplomacy. She is currently a Development Policy Officer in the Directorate General for International Partnerships at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium. 

Previously, as Head of the Economics and Business Department of Casa África, a tool of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, she contributed to the formulation of the strategic mission of the institution, as well as to the formulation and implementation of projects and activities, with a sustainable financing framework.  

She holds two Master’s degrees, one in International Law and Human Rights and the other in Development Cooperation and Immigration. She also holds degrees in Law and Economics and speaks English, French and Spanish (her mother tongue).

She has also worked as a volunteer with a local NGO in Kenya to promote women’s empowerment. She advised refugees and migrants on their rights during the migration crisis in the Canary Islands (2004-2008).

 

European Union Development policies 

The talk will explain the current situation in the world in terms of poverty and development in the different countries of the world, as well as how the European Union is working to improve the situation and the policies it is implementing.
