Global Competence and the Path to Internationalisation in Education: the Erasmus+ Programme

Our students are part of a community which is built upon local, global and intercultural foundations. In this context, our role as teachers is to provide them with opportunities in which they can analyse and get involved in global matters, educating them to thrive as global citizens.

To face this challenge, we take into consideration the four dimensions of Global Competence, as defined by the OECD: to understand and appreciate the perspectives and world views of others; to examine local, global and intercultural issues; to take action for collective well–being and sustainable development, and to engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions across cultures. With this in mind, we have to assert that the path to success must be paved with the internationalisation of education, being the opportunities provided by Erasmus + projects funded by the European Commission key to accomplish it.

In this talk, we will share different experiences developed at Playa de Arinaga High School during the past years, as part of its internationalisation strategy and its collective endeavour to integrate European projects, bilingual education and actions to blur the boundaries of the classrooms.
